“Children are often in the center of disputes during a divorce, but they have no control over the process. I take seriously my responsibility to protect the interests of the children during this vulnerable time, and believe my work makes a difference in their lives.”

Stephanie Benedict understands that her role as a divorce attorney is two-fold: first, to help her clients meet their family's day-to-day needs, and second, to give her clients knowledge and confidence to make realistic plans for their family's future. To that end, she encourages her clients to explore every possible non-adversarial approach to reaching a divorce settlement before going to court.

In keeping with NSSS&B's advocacy of mediation as an alternative to litigation, Stephanie counsels divorcing couples to consider mediation before more expensive options. As she says, "Mediation reduces conflict during this exceptionally stressful time and allows families to move through the process of divorce with maximum contribution to creative problem-solving from both sides."

Helping clients effectively deal with a crisis has always figured prominently in Stephanie's career. Her legal experience and current studies in social work have prepared her for the inevitable challenges of family law. At NSSS&B, her practice includes divorce, child custody, child and spousal support, and property settlement matters for clients in Washtenaw, Oakland and Wayne counties.

Stephanie also adds a specialized area of family law expertise—adoption law—to our practice. Related to her representation of adoption clients, Stephanie has handled paternity actions, support issues and guardianship matters.
